There are several shopping districts in and near Rome's historical centre, many based around particular streets. The area between Piazza di Spagna and Via del Corso, including Via Condotti, is where to go to find all of the best of designer shops for clothing, shoes, leather goods and other accessories. Via Nazionale, Via del Corso and Via dei Giubbonari are good streets for mid-range clothing stores. Near the Vatican, is an extensive shopping area where you will find fine food outlets. Rome's biggest and best-known flea market is Porta Portese. It is held every Sunday until around 1pm in the area extending south from the Porta Portese, an ancient Roman gate on the River Tiber, to Piazza Ippolito Nievo. Here you can find a bit of everything bags to clothes to furniture. Remember you are now entering in real italy and bargaining is the order of the day! Again beware of pickpockets. The daily morning market in Via Sannio sells new and second- hand clothes such as leather jackets or second-hand cashmere at bargain prices. On the first Sunday of every month you can find anntiqyes at the The Ponte Milvio market. On the second weekend of each month knwoen as the Underground (tel 06 36 00 53 45) is found in the Ludovisi underground car park at Via Francesco Crispi 96 where again you will find interesting antiques but unfortunatelt it is closed during the summer months. |
